Good Shepherd Hospice is excited to announce the opening a new 12 bed Hospice Inpatient Center at the very beautiful and conveniently located Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, New York. This unit will accommodate terminally ill patients in Nassau and Western Suffolk Counties who require an acute level of care in a fully functioning inpatient hospice unit.
The Hospice Physician is a new role and a momentous opportunity to become a leader at the only inpatient Catholic Hospice in Nassau County. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, responsibilities will include:
Providing day to day medical care of hospice inpatients and participating in on-call coverage systems
Ensuring certification of hospice eligibility and determining appropriate levels of hospice care
Overseeing the hospice IDT and collaborating with advanced practice providers
Participating in the organization’s performance improvement initiatives, community and medical provider outreach programs
Participating in educational programs for various level of nursing and medical trainees
Assuming administrative responsibilities and participating in the management of patients receiving care in other Good Shepherd Hospice programs, as needed
The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in the practice of medicine and will possess knowledge of Hospice concepts, philosophy, and regulatory requirements, as well as the ability to assess the needs of terminally ill patients and their families, provide complex symptom management, and coordinate the resources and personnel involved in a comprehensive interdisciplinary team approach to care.
Graduate from an accredited school of medicine or ECFMG Certification, with a current and valid NYS license to practice medicine.
Board certification in primary medical specialty required, internal medicine or family medicine preferred.
Specialty Board Certification/Eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or Hospice Medical Director Certification required.
Minimum two years postgraduate direct patient care in the absence of fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine.
Familiarity with and commitment to the hospice and palliative medicine principles of care for patients with serious illness.
Current controlled substance registration certificate
