The Hospice Physician, as a member of the interdisciplinary care team (IDT), is responsible for the direction and quality of the medical component of the care rendered to the patient/family by the interdisciplinary team. The patient/family may elect to have the hospice physician assume all or part of the primary medical care functions or instead, the hospice physician must validate the prognosis and life expectancy of the patient anticipated by the patient’s personal physician, and coordinates the hospice patient care with the patient’s primary physician. The physician will also provide direction and guidance to the Hospice program, staff, contractors and volunteers to ensure the quality of care for patients and families.

Provide physician direction and guidance to the organization’s program and staff to assure the maintenance of quality medical care for patients and families.
Maintain a positive and professional image and demonstrate self-directed learning to meet professional development and/or license requirements.
Graduate of an accredited medical school or school of osteopathy. Prefer Physician Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) or Hospice Medical Director (HMDC).
Current license to practice medicine in the State of Florida pursuant to Chapter 458 or 459 Florida Statutes and has admission privileges at one or more hospitals in the hospice service areas.
Knowledgeable about the psychosocial and medical aspects of hospice and palliative care.
Active Drug Enforcement Administration license.
Fluent in computer software applications.
Ability to manage the emotional stress of working with and caring for terminally ill patients and their families.
