Henry Ford Hospital (HFH), the flagship 800 bed tertiary referral hospital of the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) in Detroit, Michigan is seeking a Section Head for the Palliative Medicine Service (PMS). The Section Head is responsible for providing leadership, developing long – range planning for the Section in collaboration with other System leaders & promoting the continuous professional development of clinical faculty. The Palliative Medicine Service, within the Division of Hospital Medicine, was established over sixteen years ago and is woven into the fabric of the institution. The present team includes three senior staff physicians, two nurse practitioners, two HPM fellows, and a social worker. The team participates in >1200 consults/year both inpatient and outpatient providing quality cost-effective care. The Henry Ford Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship program established in 2009, one of the first ACGME accredited fellowships in the nation, trains two fellows per year.

Obtaining a faculty position at the Wayne State University School of Medicine commensurate with qualifications and experience
Guiding innovation in QI processes/projects within the section, including research, presentations & publications
Administrative opportunities include:
Participating in Supportive Oncology services in the new Brigitte Harris Cancer Center scheduled to open in 2019
Lead the expansion of the hospital’s home palliative care program
Assisting in the development of a coordinated delivery model of palliative care across Henry Ford Health System, including the expansion of the home palliative care program
The successful candidate is expected to have a medical degree (MD/DO) with board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, a minimum of five years of clinical experience in Palliative Medicine with prior administrative experience preferred. Candidates must be qualified to be licensed to practice in the state of Michigan and have a DEA Certificate.
