Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and administration of direct patient care activities, nursing practice, and nursing education and development across the organization. The CNO is responsible for driving, supporting and modeling a culture focused on employee engagement, quality, patient safety, fiscal responsibility, and the overall patient experience.
This position is a key member of the Senior Management Team and has broad impact and responsibilities. Other duties include:
Identifying and articulating a nursing vision, strategic direction, goals and procedures for the Nursing Division.
Improving and enhancing the patient experience by establishing and setting employee performance standards and improving employee engagement.
Ensuring consistency of practice across Rehabilitation, Respiratory and Hospice Care areas, as well as Nursing Education and Patient Relations
Supporting and facilitating an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care delivery
Helping promote the recruitment, retention and recognition of exceptional nurses
Planning, implementing and evaluating clinical programs and services
Approves nursing policies, nursing standards of patient care, treatment and services.
Regularly rounds on key constituents (patients, families, employees, and physicians) to enhance communication, ensure alignment, oversee operations, and that the experience is exceptional.
Managing regulatory compliance activities
The ideal candidate must possess:
PhD in Nursing preferred, Master’s degree in Nursing required
At least five years of administrative experience in the healthcare industry that involved increasing scope of responsibility
Current NYS RN license
Ability to motivate others towards excellence, cooperation and ownership
Strong team building skills and ethical standards
Strong employee and labor relations skills, experience in a Union setting preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of clinical practice and JCAHO/regulatory guidelines
