Vice President Hospice and Administrator – Sharp HospiceCare
Sharp HospiceCare is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and compassionate support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses, along with their families and friends. Services range from relief of physical discomfort to emotional and spiritual support.Sharp HospiceCare also provides “pre-hospice” home based palliative care consultation for patients with advanced illness such as heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and dementia.
Sharp HospiceCare provides in-home services and also provides the region’s first freestanding hospice homes, LakeView Home in La Mesa, ParkView Home in Del Cerro, BonitaView Home in Bonita, which offer end-of-life patients an alternative to nursing-home placement. The homes — staffed 24 hours a day by licensed nurses — offer a comfortable and supportive environment for up to four patients at one time in each home.
The Vice President Hospice and Administrator position is accountable for the operating results and continued growth of the hospice and palliative care program.This position is responsible for assuring the highest quality of patient/family care, professional services, program growth and innovation, optimal utilization of resources, development of successful internal and external relationships, and the achievement of established financial objectives, including philanthropic outreach.
Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in healthcare administration and management required.
Experience with leading and growing a hospice and palliative care program.
Baccalaureate in Nursing, Business Administration or relevant field is required.
Masters Degree in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
Current and unencumbered State of California RN or other clinical licensure preferred.
Public Health Nurse Certificate preferred.
Determines the overall direction, goals, and objectives of Sharp HospiceCare. Directs the strategic and business planning process, establishes and achieves short and long range goals, and ensures the implementation of strategic initiatives.
Establishes and achieves financial goals and measures, monitors financial performance, and ensures on-going financial support for the hospice including operating profit and net revenue.
Ensures the success of the relationship between the hospice and the Sharp HealthCare (SHC) system through the development of collaborative relationships with key partners and constituents.
Ensures the delivery of quality health care services that exceed patients'/families expectations in a cost effective and accessible manner through the development of sound business and operating policies for the hospice. Drives performance improvement for the hospice.
Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all on-going hospice operations and resources including facilities, equipment, human resources, capital and other resources.
Monitors and evaluates the adequacy of the hospice’s existing services and develops programs and services to strengthen the quality and cost-efficiency of end-of-life care throughout the continuum of care.
Builds relationships with and represents the hospice to key individuals, groups, the San Diego community, and physicians to promote awareness and program growth.
Identifies, evaluates, and recommends new services consistent with the strategic business plans to achieve the growth and objectives of the hospice and the SHC system.
Develops and implements county wide initiatives to cultivate philanthropic support through donor development and major gifting to Sharp HospiceCare.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to build and negotiate collaborative relationships.
A comprehensive understanding of hospice functions, standards, policies, and applicable state, federal, and auditing agency regulations.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing new systems, programs, techniques, and/or procedures.
A successful track record in achieving financial goals and objectives.
Customers Served: Patients, families, physicians, staff, volunteers, board members, peers, and the community.
Compensation and Benefits:
The position provides a very competitive compensation, including opportunity to participate in a management bonus incentive program along with a generous benefit package.
Incumbent spends six to seven hours per day sitting at a desk, computer terminal or meeting room tables.
Uses telephone regularly. Must be able to hear or speak clearly by telephone.
Work days may extend beyond eight hours two to three times per week.
Ability to meet frequent deadlines and tight schedules that are spread across facility locations.
Often does medium work; occasionally lifting 50lbs; medium lifting and/or carrying 25lbs.
Ability to read and comprehend computer screens, computer reports and read fine print.

Additional Salary Information: Plus up to 30% management incentive bonus, 457b, 401a and 403b retirement plans. Benefits contribute between 20%-25% of total compensation.
