This RN position will provide care on night-shift at the Hospice Care Centers located inside UK Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Baptist Healthcare. Our inpatient setting gives you the opportunity to combine your acute care skills with your passion of providing personalized, compassionate end-of-life care, in a low nurse-to-patient ratio.

Experienced and new graduate nurses will be considered
Active Kentucky RN license
CPR certification, negative TB skin test, pre-employment physician’s health clearance
Registered Nurse Specialized Skills
Possesses knowledge and understanding of End of Life philosophy of care/symptom management, Clinical Skills, Bedside Manner, Infection Control, Nursing Skills, Physiological Knowledge, Administering Medication, Medical Teamwork, Multi-tasking, Listening, Verbal Communication, Provides comfort care and bereavement at end of life.
Summary of Responsibilities
Seeks and obtains sufficient information necessary to function effectively in the hospice setting.
Provides professional nursing care by utilizing all elements of nursing process.
Initiates and sustains as needed the implementation of orders for medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician
Observes the patient for changes in condition and reports these changes and the patient's/family's/caregiver's needs to the attending physician and appropriate supervisory personnel. Records pain/symptom management changes/outcomes as appropriate.
Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families
Addresses/resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies
Works collaboratively with hospice interdisciplinary team members to teach patient/family/caregiver:
Food and Fluids at end of life
Non-Verbal Signs and symptoms of pain/discomfort
Medication administration, effects/side effects
Provides appropriate support at time of death and period of bereavement.
Supervises ancillary personnel and delegates responsibilities when required.
Participates actively in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Demonstrates a time-conscious attitude and consistently strives to use time effectively by completing assignments in an efficient, well organized, and self-directed manner.
Shares information, knowledge, concerns, and expertise through staff meetings, in-services, and assisting in the orientation and education of new employees.
Establishes and maintains effective communication patterns using tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and professional attitude when relating to patients, patients’ families, co-workers, supervisors, health professionals, and physicians.
