The Social Worker MSW provides patients and family members with the education and advice needed to cope with issues which arise from various emotional or physical problems as outlined by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners scope of practice.  The Social Worker MSW coordinates a variety of services including crisis intervention, bereavement, client advocacy, referrals, prevention, education, discharge planning and implementation, and psychosocial assessments. The Social Worker MSW collaborates in the development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives.

The Social Worker MSW provides or supervises plan of care interventions to include resource and referral assistance, crisis intervention, prevention, education, patient advocacy, bereavement, therapy, and counseling as appropriate.  Collaborates with the healthcare team and involves the patient and/or family in the development and implementation of plans.  The Social Worker MSW serves as a liaison with the community resources and their staff to facilitate smooth transition and placement of the patients within the assigned service line.

The ideal Social Worker MSW will have knowledge of the principles and methods to restore or enhance social, psychosocial, or bio-psychosocial functioning of individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations and communities. They will have listening and interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to handle grief.
