Vice President, Patient Care

Job Summary This role directs and manages all direct care operations from referral and admission to home hospice and inpatient to assure quality, effectiveness and efficiency. Oversees Quality and Compliance Department. Supports and enhances the organization’s mission and philosophy, promoting excellence in end of life care. Essential Functions Program Manages direct patient care services and Interdisciplinary resources in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, NHPCO standards, JCAHO standards and organization policy and procedures, assuring the delivery of a comprehensive, high quality program of patient care in all settings. Assures timely and appropriate clinical operations and use of resources, the scope of which includes, but may not be limited to, access to care, pharmacy, infusion services, DME, medical supplies, third party payers, staff utilization, prn staff, level of care utilization, and protocols. Assures implementations of continuous quality improvement through evaluation of appropriate data and development of strategies to improve processes and outcomes Assures all clinical documentation meets regulatory and third party payer requirements. Instructs, supports and serves as an educational resource to clinical staff. Assesses staffing needs, develops staffing recommendations and employs patient care staff members. Consults with the Chief Executive Officer regarding disciplinary issues and participates in clinical staff selection. Regularly reviews and evaluates patient care program budget against actual performance and recommends revisions as needed. Annually prepares goals for patient care program operation and reviews them with the Chief Executive Officer. Reviews, evaluates and reports on progress in meeting defined goals on a regular basis. Assures maintenance of Clinical Procedure Manual. General Organization Functions Collaborates with Vice President, Medical Services and clinical managers for the review, development and implementation of procedures related to patient care operations. Collaborates with financial staff to assure coordination of activities with clinical staff and to measure progress towards goals of efficient use of organizational resources. Collaborates with clinical directors and education staff for the development, delivery and evaluation of educational activities related to direct care operations. Assures regular and timely evaluation of direct care staff, including disciplinary actions. Participates in staff orientation sessions, volunteer training, management training, community education and various organization committees as appropriate to topic and position. Attends board meetings, acts as Leadership representative on Board committees as assigned and reports on patient care service activity as appropriate. Supports clinical experience programs, student placements and internships. Participates in state and national industry related activities as appropriate. Responsibility to the organization: Acts to ensure that quality, integrity, and professionalism are valued and maintained and adheres to organizational expectations for professional conduct. Develops and reviews specific policies and procedures in collaboration with appropriate management and clinical staff. Works to assure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, state and federal regulations, and the requirements of certifying and accrediting bodies. Available twenty-four hours/day, seven days/week for emergency consultation with clinical staff. Identifies alternate coverage when unavailable. Assures that areas of quality and outcome enhancement and focus are communicated to management and clinical staff for implementation and follow through. Recognizes individual role as a representative of the organization by conveying a positive organizational image and promoting confidence in all programs, services and activities. Actively models and communicates the organization’s mission , vision and values and supports a corporate culture of empowerment, team development, and open communication. Approaches the organization’s business with a customer satisfaction focus. Supports an effective working relationship and collaborates with the marketing department’s efforts in accessing patients and educating referral sources about the services of the organization. Supports an effective working relationship and collaborates with the development department’s efforts to raise funds and participates in fund raising activities as appropriate Promotes and contributes to a positive work environment and acts as a role model to clinical staff in support of the organization’s mission, vision and values. Identifies professional development needs and seeks opportunities to maintain and enhance knowledge. Performs other related functions as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree required, master's level preferred. Registered nurse, licensed in Pennsylvania, strongly preferred; Minimum of five years hospice-related clinical experience required. Two to three years of Director-level hospice management and supervisory experience required. Teaching experience preferred. Must be a proven leader able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; Must have demonstrated ability to motivate, supervise and lead other leaders with excellence. Able to accurately document and effectively communicate required medical and statistical information and to develop well-written reports. As an exempt employee, must be willing to work necessary hours to meet job requirements. |
