The RN for will perform clinical duties as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services through the Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Acute Care, Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services/ Long Term Care, designated Associate Chief of Nursing Service and Head Nurse (or designee). The duties and responsibilities for the Inpatient Mental Health Registered Nurse include but are not limited to: Provides structure and maintains a safe therapeutic milieu and recovery-oriented environment to all patients. Thoroughly assesses the physical and mental health needs of assigned patients to include newly admitted patients and discharging patients. Ensures detailed, current and comprehensive documentation is contained in the patient medical record and other pertinent records. Administers medications and procedures as established in policies and guidelines. Communicates with different departments for requisition of supplies. Reports faulty equipment to facilitate request for work orders. Recognizes emergency situations and demonstrates effective action in emergencies. Influences care outcomes, coordinates and collaborates with the Interdisciplinary team to develop and revise patient-centered plan of care. Supports Recovery-oriented Inpatient Care by improving therapeutic environment and conducting daily groups. Leads deescalating of patients within the facility, manages psychiatric emergencies, and intervenes utilizing the therapeutic principles of Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) when clinically indicated. Performs Charge Nurse/Organizer role by: Functioning independently and demonstrating ability to organize, oversee, delegate, and ensure fair distribution of assessed needs to other members of the interdisciplinary team and peers. Coordinating unit schedules with NM/ANM/NOD to ensure adequate staffing coverage utilizing the Nursing Hours per Patient Day (NHPPD). Assuming responsibility and accountability for the day to day operation and patient flow of the Inpatient Mental Health Units. Serves as preceptor to new RNs following orientation checklist and facilitating learning of assigned duties and designated competencies. Assists in analysis and interpretation of performance improvement and performance measure data, and assists with the development of policies, protocols, procedures, and unit guidelines. Participates and promotes the Pathway to Excellence and Shared Governess Performs other duties as assigned by NM/ANM.
