This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more The Physical Therapist (PT), Clinical Specialist, Pain, is located in the Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Section, in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) at the Western Colorado Health Care System, a Level II, Medium Complexity facility. Major Duties: Incumbent spends 75% of their time working with evaluation and treatment of orthopedic spinal and extremity disorders/dysfunction typically with an acute and/or chronic pain component, in the Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic and Interdisciplinary Pain Program. Incumbent is required >25% of the time to utilize advanced knowledge and expert skills in a range of specialized interventions, treatments and modalities, in treating this patient population. The additional 25% of their time, is split based on priority and or demand on numerous ancillary roles in the department. These includes general Physical Therapy, weekend and stop gap Inpatient Physical Therapy coverage. Execute and monitor clinically appropriate, advanced treatment programs with a great deal of autonomy. They consistently demonstrate advanced knowledge of contemporary Physical Therapy interventions in Outpatient Orthopedic clinic and the Interdisciplinary Pain Program. Regularly demonstrate the application of advanced clinical knowledge to provide guidance to other staff therapists and therapy assistants within the department, in the area of Outpatient Orthopedic clinic and Interdisciplinary Pain Program. Regularly coordinate clinical activities within PM&R and/or the Interdisciplinary Pain Program. They often take a lead role in physical therapy program development, outcome management, and strategic planning. Act as a candid and trusted liaison between staff therapists and the Supervisor Therapist, PM&RS and Pain Program management. Regularly provide professional oversight to subordinate staff, and offers specialty or complex consultation for all staff therapists in his areas of expertise or specialty. Performs comprehensive patient evaluations Primary patient care responsibilities is outpatient orthopedic clinic, with an emphasis on this position being the Clinical Specialist on complex orthopedics, and spinal care involving pain. This may include inpatient and long term care responsibilities, as directed by the Supervisory Therapist PM&R. Modifies treatment plan according to patient response to best meet established goals. Documents treatment progression and/or modifications according to departmental and Medical Center standards. Responsible for participating and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and techniques related to P.T. and other related topics. Responsible for maintaining open communication with patients, families, Medical Center staff and others. Performs as the sole PM&RS team member of the Interdisciplinary Pain Program. As the sole PM&RS member of the Interdisciplinary Pain Program, is an integral member of the Interdisciplinary Pain Program; and contributes to the comprehensive interdisciplinary treatment plan of patients with pain.
