Learn more The Social Work Executive, GS-14, at the White River Junction VA Medical Center has full responsibility for provision of complex social work services requiring advanced practice skills. The White River Junction VA Medical Center (WRJ VAMC) is responsible for the delivery of health care services to eligible Veterans in Vermont and the 4 contiguous counties of New Hampshire. These services are delivered at the Medical Center's main campus located in White River Junction, Vermont, and at its seven Outpatient Clinics (Bennington, Brattleboro, Burlington, Newport, and Rutland, Vermont; Keene and Littleton, New Hampshire). Incumbent is a full-time administrator for the service and has the responsibility and direct supervisory oversight of social workers in multiple divisions of a VHA facility including, inpatient, specialty clinics, ER, primary care, CBOC's, Transition Care Management, Care Giver Support areas. The GS-14 Social Work Executive is responsible for overseeing the professional practice of all facility and CBOC social workers and the provision of Social Work Services. In addition, the Social Work Executive is responsible for Extended Care Programs in Contract Nursing Home, and Non- Institutional Care and Caregiver Support Program. The facility has 65 185 series FTEE of which approximately 50% fall within the social work service, while others work in different services lines. The position also includes a significant management role, which includes supervisory social work program management, facility EAP, management of oversight of Transition Care Management, Caregiver Support, Contract Nursing Home, Adult Day Health Care, Respite, and services, and other collateral management assignments as determined by facility leadership. The Social Work Executive possess supervisory and management skills, is licensed or certified in a state at the advanced practice level and provides direct supervision for licensure to new hires and clinicians with lower level licensure. They have full responsibility for clinical practice, program management, education, human resource management and supervision, and organizational stewardship for a social work program. The VA facility has a variety of clinical programs with a wide range of acute activities providing inpatient and outpatient services and treatment for patients in general medicine and surgery, medical specialty programs, geriatric and extended care, psychiatry, substance abuse, palliative care, hospice care, home-based primary care, community care, and various other ambulatory care programs with related research, educational and program evaluation functions. The position requires that the employee travels to the various sites and to other VA facilities, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), or VACO as necessary. The Social Work Executive is responsible for defining the mission and vision of the Services, developing the scope of practice for all social workers, designing a Social Work Service Plan of Care, and assuring implementation of quality improvement measures. The incumbent is responsible for developing, planning, clarifying, administering and managing Social Work Services for all areas of the Medical Center. The incumbent designates service priorities and objectives, ensures the supervision and evaluation of all social work staff, and is responsible for supervising and evaluating the performance of the assistant or deputy chiefs and supervisors. The Social Work Executive makes independent professional decisions and recommendations. The incumbent serves as the liaison to other Services or care-lines, other facilities, VISN offices and VHA Central Office. This position also serves as liaison with Veterans Benefits Administration Offices, other government agencies, and the community. The incumbent is responsible for advising management of specific clinical or administrative issues within Social Work Service, Extended Care Programs within the medical Center.
