The Pain Management Physician Assistant (PA) / Pain Clinic Coordinator (PCC) is responsible for the care of the Pain Management patient, administrative needs of the Anesthesia/Pain Service Line per the Chief of Anesthesia and the Director/Pain Section Chief, and for coordinating activities within and between the various pain service activities, consulting & supporting services, as well as providing leadership within the multidisciplinary staff. CLINICAL PRACTICE: The Pain Management PA/PCC is responsible for providing and assisting with the coordination of care for chronic pain patients enrolled with Pain Service Chronic Pain and Functional Restoration Programs. The PA/PCC provides consultation service locally and regionally for providers working with complex chronic pain care. The PA/PCC provides education to patients and to providers regarding safe and sustainable chronic pain care and effective functional restoration of patients suffering with chronic pain. The PA/PCC performs the following duties: Completes detailed history and physical exams, as well as health inventories, orders and interprets diagnostic studies and prescribes appropriate medication and other treatment modalities. Develops, evaluates and manages medical treatment plans as part of a coordinated multidisciplinary treatment team focused on safe and sustainable chronic pain care and functional restoration of patients living with chronic pain. Demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating complex chronic pain problems. Consistently makes and implements sound and reasonable decisions and has responsibility for patient outcomes Provides care management that includes timely, thorough, and efficient documentation & coordination. Reviews and follows up on diagnostic test results and communicates finding to patients and other providers. Initiates consults as appropriate, follows the treatment plan of care, coordinates and discusses plan with other care providers and specialists as needed. Establishes and maintains contact with other care providers, specialists, pharmacy and ancillary staff as necessary within the facility and the private sector. ADMINISTRATIVE ASSIGNMENTS The Pain Management PA/PCC provides administrative support to the Section Chief of Pain Management with the following: Works collaboratively with the Pain Section Chief, hospital leaders, Service Line Leaders, and others in the planning and implementation of patient-centered, pain management & integrative/Whole Health initiatives and programs. Develops and periodically reviews/analyzes policies and procedures, prepares reports/presentations, and makes recommendations on proposed policies and changes in collaboration with the Pain Section Chief. Reports with detailed implementation plans and action items as requested. Assists in the identification, application, and implementation of VA and non-VA grant funding opportunities to support the Pain Clinic, including the development of program and project proposals and budgets, identification of grant timelines and deliverables, and facilitation implementation of the funded project work once funding is received. Assists in the development, coordination and implementation of Pain Clinic workflows, programs, initiatives, and therapies. EDUCATIONAL REASSIGNMENT The Pain Management PA/PCC is responsible for the following educational assignments: Develops and implements in-service trainings for applicable staff. Provides supervision & training to rotating pain medicine & psychology trainees & newly hired staff. Provides education & training to staff, patients and family members, including Whole Health, chronic pain management, exercise, nutrition, self-care, and personalized health planning. RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT The Pain Management PA/PCC will participate in merit-reviewed, approved research, QI, and other scholarly projects to develop publishable material for appropriate professional presentations and journals as time and opportunity allow. Completes, compiles, and reports records/data required by the facility, VISN, and others. Aggregates and analyzes information for decision making. Supports the Pain Clinic's clinical research and other scholarly endeavors, including, but not limited to Whole Health implementation. Assists with literature review, chart review, data entry, IRB submissions, completion of research study paperwork, analysis, report and manuscript writing, and/or coordinates these endeavors with others. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4pm Financial Discloser Report: Not required Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
