This is an open and continuous announcement which will be used to fill Nursing Assistant positions in the following units- Veterans Homeland - Long Stay/Palliative Care/Hospice Sherman Terrace - Long Stay/Short Stay Rehab Hopewell House - Long Stay Dementia Freed Harbor - Long Stay Mental Health The Nursing Assistant functions as a member of the nursing team, participates in the care of patients in acute, sub-acute or chronic stage of illness with changing nursing needs that are predictable and require periodic assessment by the registered nurse. The incumbent carries out all functions and duties on a regular and recurring basis. The incumbent performs aspects of nursing care that requires: 1) a basic understanding to the total patient program; 2) understanding of simple scientific facts and principles; 3) a broad spectrum of technical skills; 4) adaptation of procedures to meet individual patient needs, and 5) recognition of the relatedness of patients' behavior and physical condition. Position is located in Community Living Center- Long Term Psych unit. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Will be responsible for maintaining knowledge of reusable medical equipment (RME) and cleaning process to follow between patient uses. Is responsible for returning items to SPS for proper cleaning. Has good knowledge of non-critical RME. Must understand how to use items and the proper cleaning procedures that follow the use of the item/items. Setting up patient care related equipment such as oxygen, suction and assisting in monitoring proper functioning equipment. Reporting patient status to the registered nurse and documenting pertinent information in the medical record including current status and/or subtle changes in patient's biopsychosocial and spiritual status. Participating in patient centered conference/shift reports and contributing information for the development and review of the patient care plan. Maintaining a clean, safe and therapeutic environment and reporting potential/actual hazards to the registered nurse. Identifying the need for and obtaining non-routine supplies and equipment. Providing physical/psychological support and instructions relative to diagnostic procedures. Performing aspects of nursing care in a variety of situations to meet patient's non-routine needs. Perform hand hygiene upon entering and exiting a patient's room and will maintain knowledge of different modes of isolation to prevent the spread of infection. Work schedule: Rotating shifts - Variable days, Monday through Sunday.
