LPN - Inpatient Behavioral Health (BH) Unit, under the supervision of a licensed RN, assists the RN in the care of patients in acute, subacute, or chronic states of illnesses. This position is located in the Nursing Services at Lebanon Veteran Affairs Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a very wide range of patient personal care, support diagnostic services, and chart activities on a regular and continual basis on a surgical, medical, rehabilitation, psychiatric, or long-term care ward or clinic. The incumbent performs duties in such a way as to promote a sense of worth and dignity within each individual. The Inpatient Behavioral Health (BH) LPN is responsible for the evidence-based care of a group of patients as follows: Responsible for direct patient care within the BH inpatient unit and facilitates the appropriate plan of care Expected to manage patient care by monitoring of psychiatric symptoms, assisting in medical and psychiatric emergencies, administering medications, assessing withdrawal symptoms and providing appropriate, clinically sound care Responsible for maintaining patient safety and the safety of the environment This LPN possesses the ability to assess and interpret data reflective of the patient's status, administration of medications and identify each patient's requirements relative to their recovery status. The Inpatient BH LPN possesses additional skills in identifying and caring for suicidal Veterans and managing disturbed behavior through their specialized training. The LPN can be assigned to facilitate therapeutic groups within the milieu. The LPN provides guidance to all caregivers and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) regarding the plan of care to support patients' needs. The LPN is knowledgeable and demonstrates various de-escalation techniques to safely administer care. This LPN is also responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties.
