The VA Salisbury Healthcare System (VASHCS) is actively recruiting to fill a Board Certified Chief of PM&R/Physiatrist physician position in our growing Rehabilitation section to help care for our Veterans – American’s Heroes. Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment with the Wake Forest University Medical Center School of Medicine & will be actively involved with education & teaching of PM&R residents, fellows, medical students & other providers. The W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center with state-of-the-art technology is a 203-bed medical center located in Salisbury, North Carolina. The medical center supports (2) large health care centers or community-based outpatient clinics in Kernersville, and South Charlotte, along with a large PM&R rehabilitation department.
Winston-Salem is the compensation and pension (C&P) clinic of jurisdiction for the State of North Carolina, facilitating the rating of veterans for compensation and pension purposes. Inpatient services are provided for acute medicine, cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, physical rehabilitation, subacute and extended care, neuropsychiatry services, psychiatric intensive care, and geropsychiatry. Primary and specialized outpatient services are provided at the medical center and outpatient clinics. The medical center is affiliated with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, with a focus on resident involvement in primary care, dermatology, rehabilitation, ophthalmology, and psychiatry. Salisbury is recognized as one of the largest employers in Rowan County and enjoys the recognition and respect of the community through an active outreach program.
The Chief of PM&R/Physiatrist will be responsible for providing professional clinical services to Veterans in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service, as well as administrative oversight of service line. This position is under the direct administrative supervision of the Chief of Staff. We provide high quality Service for our Veterans by placing an emphasis on therapeutic excellence, and a multi-disciplinary approach to care. The incumbent will participate as assigned in patient care, teaching, and administrative activities of the Service. Expertise in chronic pain, TBI/Polytrauma, Neurorehabilitation, regenerative medicine or cancer rehabilitation is preferred. The Staff physiatrist may also be required to treat patients with painful and function-limiting musculoskeletal disorders of the spine, peripheral joints, and soft tissues such as sprains/strains, disc herniation's, rheumatologic conditions, degenerative, developmental, acquired, and traumatic neuromuscular conditions of the upper and lower limbs, spinal cord, and brain. Prescribe therapeutic exercise and other rehabilitation modalities. Perform and interpret electro diagnostic studies to include electrodiagnostic studies. Interpret other diagnostic studies that evaluate a patient's musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. Physiatrist should be competent to perform injection techniques. Fluoroscopy guided injections and musculoskeletal ultrasound training is desirable. The requirements for the incumbent will include teaching and preceptor responsibilities for the PM&R residency program (in affiliation with Wake Forest University) and participation in residency and hospital committees as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).
Must be U.S. Citizen – Non-US Citizens may be considered
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
Board Certification in Physiatry preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered
