This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. This surgeon will have assigned OR block time and scheduled clinic times. Administrative duties will be designated by Section Chief of Surgery or Chief of Surgery and will include preventive medicine, emergency preparedness, and completion of all VA required education including BLS and ACLS, to ensure that all activities comply with Joint Commission and Medical Center requirements. Duties and responsibilities for the general surgeon position include, but are not limited to; Surgeon Responsibilities: Diagnose, manage and perform surgical procedures related to diseases and injuries, both in a clinical and surgical setting Demonstrate clinical competence in performing initial history, assessment, and planning to include patient education, medical, and surgical management Provide evaluation and treatment including emergency management in both outpatient and inpatient settings Make informed decisions of therapeutic intervention based on patient information and preferences, up to date scientific evidence and clinical judgment Support health promotion and disease prevention activities Complete clinical charting and documentation appropriately and in a timely manner Maintain accurate progress notes in the official record of the Veteran for medical, legal, quality and financial purposes Communicate with patients and family members, educating them to understand their medical condition Maintain professional decorum Administrative Duties: Participate in the education programs for surgical personnel Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care Participate in developing and updating policies and procedures specific to general surgery Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews Attend surgical staff meetings Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff Participate in Medical Staff committee assignments as determine by the Associate Chief of Staff for Surgical Services Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (subject to change based on facility needs).
