The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct patient care and care coordination, as it pertains, to patients and their care within the Intensive Care Unit and Acute Care Unit (ICU/ACU) at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. The ICU/ACU RN reports directly to the ICU/ACU nurse manager and assistant nurse manager. The Intensive Care Unit/Acute Care Unit (ICU/ACU) Registered Nurse is a professional registered nurse (RN) qualified by education and a broad-based clinical knowledge that enables him/her to effectively provide fundamental nursing care and critical nursing care to a Veteran population with widely diverse cardiac, medical, and surgical diagnoses. The ICU/ACU RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Common duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Performing ongoing cardiac monitoring for patients with critically acute and chronic health conditions. Demonstrates cardiac rhythm recognition, detects cardiac arrhythmias, understands arrhythmia significance, recognizes symptoms, and anticipates or initiates appropriate nursing measures. Performs ongoing assessments, noting changes in condition, and provides appropriate interventions. Performs emergent care in acute/crisis situations. Active participant of the facility Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT). Effectively manages one's time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently. Prioritize and identify more critical and less critical activities and tasks; adjusts priorities as appropriate. Ensure that high-priority work is accomplished within required timelines. Schedules by effectively allocating own time to complete work; coordinates own and others' schedules to avoid conflicts. Leverages resources by working with available resources (individuals/staffing, processes, departments, and tools) to complete work efficiently. Stays focused by using time effectively and prevents irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with work completion. Able to identify and rely on the "experts" in various departments who can address and solve unique problems. Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 11 paid Federal holidays per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
