You Will Be Responsible For:
Work collaboratively with all departments and professionals within the Birth Center and AdventHealth Shawnee Mission to ensure seamless care for the families served.
Take initiative to complete mandatory job requirements; assume responsibility for my role in performance development.
Take initiative to be informed about new equipment, technology, forms, credentialing and practice changes, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Participate in unit quality and process improvement activities
Adhere to the infant security practices and respond accordingly as outlined in the Birth Center Infant Security Policy.
Serve as a clinical resource to all areas of the hospital on issues related to breastfeeding.
Review and develop hospital policies and protocols which relate to breastfeeding.
Develop breastfeeding educational materials for parents.
Collaborate with staff to develop resolutions on any inpatient breastfeeding issues.
Plan and provide lactation orientations, performance evaluations and continuing education opportunities.
Promote and maintain the associate lactation program.
Coordinate both in-patient and follow-up programs for breastfeeding dyads including the outpatient breastfeeding clinic, the breastfeeding warmline and weekly breastfeeding support group.
Assess community and patient education/program needs, and design services to meet needs.
Facilitate staff in-services related to programs/services offered to patients.
Collaborate with Birth Center & Children’s associates to support and integrate services.
Participate actively in leadership, physician and unit-specific committees as appropriate.
Incorporate patient, physician and customer needs/concerns into decision making.
Lead hospital/department quality initiatives.
Assist in the dissemination of information to the community by:
-- Answering inquiries pertaining to our services
-- Working with Marketing to create, edit and distribute promotional/informational literature
-- Providing outreach education as requested
Maintain skills as defined by the annual Lactation Consultant competencies checklist.
Performs an annual review of all educational materials provided to the physician offices to assure that information is accurate and reflects current practice. Acts as a liaison to physician offices to assure that educational materials are available and patient needs are identified as early in the pregnancy as possible.
Assures that navigator appointments are correctly scheduled, and resources are utilized appropriately.
Maintains accurate records of visits and referrals for budgeting purposes.
Monitors program productivity. Flexes up and down based on program volume.
Interviews and hires when indicated.
Oversees the scheduling of nurse navigators to assure adequate coverage for visits.
Reviews and develops hospital policies and protocols which relate to educating and preparing families for their delivery and hospital stay.
Collaborates with Birth Center staff, physicians and ancillary departments to develop plan of care for high risk situations.
Performs annual and mid-year TalentCare Developmental Reviews.
Serves as a clinical resource to all areas of the hospital on issues related to preparing families for parenthood and delivery at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.
Assesses community and patient education/program needs, and designs classes to meet those needs.
Manages all aspects of class agendas, materials, participation, room scheduling and fee collection.
Provides on-going assessment, evaluation of classes and instructors, and provides feedback to instructors through direct observation at least annually.
Promotes and oversees yearly updates of Birth, Babies and Beyond and all related materials.
Facilitates staff in-services related to programs/services offered to the community.
Provide oversight of the perinatal bereavement and postpartum emotional support programs.
What You Will Need:
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing
2 Years of Position-Related Experience
Kansas Registered Nurse License
BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
The Birth Center Program Manager is responsible for development, coordination and evaluation of the Birth Center Lactation program, the perinatal bereavement and postpartum emotional support program, the maternity navigator program, the perinatal community education classes at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Serves as a clinical resource to all areas of the hospital and the community on issues related to Birth Center & Children’s Services. S/he coordinates the efforts of the multidisciplinary care team for the patients within his/her scope of responsibility. The Birth Center Program Manager collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of care to Birth Center patients.
The Birth Center Program Manager demonstrates leadership/management skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth. Strives to advance from novice to expert and become an evidence-based scholar in order to provide optimal patient care and advocate on behalf of his/her patients. The Birth Center Program Manager serves as a role model for the mission, vision and values of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. S/he is accountable for working within the parameters of his/her scope of practice, all regulatory standards and established policies, protocols and procedures.
