This position is eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. *Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Psychiatry is preferred, but not required. Also 2-3 years of experience within the VA Health Care System is also preferred, but not required. Normal work of the position requires visual acuity (with the ability to read typewritten characters without strain, corrective lenses permitted), keen hearing (aid permitted), clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially moderate levels of lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds). Duties may include, but are not limited to:\nClinical - 90%\n- Acts as a leader of the multidisciplinary team on Inpatient Acute Psychiatry, Outpatient, MHRRTP, and/or Geriatric Units.\n- Completes Compensation and Pension examinations as needed\n- Participates in psychiatric on call rotation.\n- Performs other clinical duties as assigned\nAdministrative - 10%\n- Enters all veteran/family contacts in the electronic record using appropriate formats and templates. This information must be entered in a complete, confidential, and professional manner to insure information on the patient is shared with other VA staff. This information is to be reviewed on a regular basis.\n- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with employees, volunteers, consumers and stakeholders within the VA and outside community agencies; facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services.\n- Collaborates in the performance improvement processes and comply with performance measures as required by the VHA and for Mental Health Service. This work may include the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for a team of treatment providers. The Psychiatrist will participate in activities and obtain feedback from clients and work to enhance services as needed.\n- Attends all meetings (weekly interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, Mental Health Staff meetings, assigned committee meetings, etc.) and perform other duties as required by Mental Health Service Line. This may include coverage responsibilities in the absence of other staff to ensure timely access and coordination of care.\n- Demonstrates professional behavior that conforms to VA regulations and policy, State and Federal laws, and ethical codes of appropriate professional social work accrediting organizations.
