The successful candidate will have skills and training in Operative Procedure: History and Physical, Biopsy: Vulvar, Vagina, Cervix, Endometrium; colposcopy: Vulvar, Vaginal and Cervical; insertion of intrauterine and implantable contraceptives; cytology sampling. The successful candidate will follow established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Department of Veterans Affairs, their assigned stations(s), and the professions. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Must hold current certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology OR must be an Active Candidate. Preferred Experience: Board Certified or qualified Board Eligible by one of the recognized Gynecology Certification Boards. Experience in gynecologic office based procedures required. ["Responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to: Physician will provide duties required to evaluate new patients, consults, and follow-up in the outpatient clinic setting and telehealth clinic. Abnormal cervical cytology evaluation and treatment including Colposcopy with or without cervical biopsy. Amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, menorrhagia, and abnormal uterine bleeding with evaluation, treatment, and management. Care of benign gynecologic conditions Evaluate, diagnose, and treat conditions related to the female reproductive system to include incontinence and family planning. Contraception counseling with medical comorbidities and management including insertion/placement/removal of IUD and LARC and pessary management. Care of the disorders of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries with evaluation, treatment, and management. Initiate or oversee external referrals for inpatient and subspecialty care, including major and minor operative procedures requiring sedation/anesthesia and infertility, oncology, female pelvic medicine/reconstructive surgery, and others to ensure patient preferences are met by appropriately credentialed clinicians. Oversee external referral for women eligible for care in the community who prefer to have gynecologic conditions managed by outside clinicians to ensure patient needs and preferences are met by appropriately credentialed clinicians. Establish professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Process all administrative duties relevant to patient care, particularly CPRS documentation, the Joint Commission, VHA, and the medical center's policies and guidelines Coordinate activities of other health care service staff, resolve concerns affecting patient care, and provide appropriate education for the patient and/or family members regarding the patient's care, illness, possible outcomes and case management. Cultivate health team relationships by resolving conflict, supporting all staff on the team and observing the medical center's policies and procedures. Participate on committees and workgroups to assess, maintain, and improve the medical center's compliance with local, VISN, and national standards and guidelines for the care of women veterans. Participate in quality assurance programs, assist our facility to meet established performance measures, and such other duties as assigned by the Chief of Primary Care. May be assigned other duties including representing the Section of Gynecology on committees and panels. Maintain VA training requirements, with upkeep of credentials, state license and DEA registration as required. Required to participate in the education of medical students and residents.
