Advent Health Zephyrhills has provided faith-based, whole person care to our community for more than 30 years. This means we build trust, create belonging and deliver hope, thereby extending the healing ministry of Christ, when caring for our patients. Our 139-bed facility includes an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI, Heart Institute, Primary Stroke Center, emergency department, state-of-the-art operating rooms, Bone & Joint Center, Simpson Breast Health Center and the area’s only Obstetrics Program, The Baby Place, offering family-centered maternity care. Other special services include, a Center for Wound Healing, CREATION® Health Wellness Center, CREATION® Health Spa, home health, imaging center, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
The role you’ll contribute:
The Lead Laboratory Assistant assists the Laboratory Coordinator in the daily activities of the Specimen Processing Area. Their duties include orientation and training for newly hired and students, as well as, providing updated in-service to the Laboratory Assistants. Acts as the “In Charge” person over the Specimen Processing Area during the times the Laboratory Coordinator or Lead Technologist is absent. It is also responsible to perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements and send-out processing and, assists in the Clinical Laboratory as needed.

Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
Selects the appropriate venipuncture technique based upon the age and condition of the patient
Respects patient privacy by knocking before entering the room.
Is considerate of patient’s need for rest. Adheres to “quiet time.” Advises patient before turning on overhead lighting when performing phlebotomy at night.
Correctly identifies the patient, without exception, using 2 patient identifiers.
Follows PPID procedures and Laboratory Policies.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalent.
5 years of hospital-based phlebotomy and eighty hours of training in the proper procedure to be employed in the performance of venipuncture and skin punctures under the supervision of the Chief Medical Technologist, Senior Phlebotomist
Demonstrated clerical aptitude
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
10 years of experience and eighty hours of training in the proper procedure to be employed in the performance of venipuncture and skin punctures under the supervision of the Chief Medical Technologist, Senior Phlebotomist
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
BLS from America Heart Association or any other agency approved by the Education Department at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy certification preferred. Additional languages
