This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience, preferred current critical care or med/surg experience related to most desired cluster Current BLS certification Effective interpersonal relationship skills and proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment Professional poise and demonstrated ability to function well when challenged Experience in creative problem solving and willingness to be innovative in approach to nursing care delivery Judicious clinical prioritizing BSN preferred but not required Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: May require occasional heaving lifting (45 lbs and over); moderate carrying (15-44 lbs); standing, walking, and kneeling; pushing/pulling; the use of fingers on both hands; ability to reach above shoulders; repeated bending; climbing using legs and arms; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable to 13" to 16" so Jaeger 1/to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic color and shades of colors; and hearing (hearing aid permitted). Float Pool staff are divided into two clusters; Critical Care and Med/Surg. Priority will be given to assignment within their respective cluster based on overall staffing needs. Critical Care Float RNs are given priority to cover ICU, PCU and the Emergency Department. They will cover other areas if no needs exist within that cluster during their scheduled shift Medical/Surgical Float RNs are given priority to covert the med/surg units, inpatient behavioral health unit, and the Community Living Center. This announcement will remain open until all spots are filled. Applicants will be reviewed every 2 weeks and referred to the hiring manager on a continuous basis. The RN will document observations, assessments, and changes in the patient's condition in a computerized patient record, collaborate with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes, provide a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. The RN must possess the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and members of the interdisciplinary team; participates as a unit member to enhance the work environment and foster healthy professional relationships. RN is expected to communicate timely and effectively with all members of the patient care team, as well as relate courteously and appropriately to all internal and external customers. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, changes in patient's condition, medication delivery and transportation of patients to tests/procedures; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. The RN must demonstrate the flexibility to work in a constantly changing, dynamic and diverse environment requiring excellent interpersonal, clinical, and critical thinking skills.
