The Syracuse VAMC is seeking a qualified nurse practitioner to provide low dose cancer management services at our facility. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Physician Assistant Basic Requirements Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~ Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-8 Physician Assistant Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of Physician Assistant under normal and emergent conditions. Moderate lifting 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted. The care provided includes: - Organizing and leading in Patient services to educate and share information about the LCS Program with clinical staff - Working with local and national clinical applications coordinators to ensure project clinical reminders and templates are implemented appropriately - Maintaining pulmonary nodule and follow -up care databases - Optimizing patient -centered care practices through patient education, care management and appropriate utilization of system processes - Ongoing monitoring and scheduling of patient screening exams, procedures, clinic appointments; monitoring and assisting with follow -up of abnormal findings, - Assuming primary patient care responsibility for patients in the Lung Cancer Screening and Nodule Program under the supervision of Chief of Pulmonary Medicine. - Participating in all activities relating to the Lung Cancer Screening and Nodule Program, including education, development of patient educational materials, continuing quality and safety initiatives, continuing medical education programs, direct patient care, and other activities relating to the Lung Cancer Screening and Nodule Program and Thoracic oncology as defined by the Chief of Pulmonary Medicine - Overseeing the prescreening of patients for appropriateness of lung cancer screening, and discusses rationale and options with patients. Obtaining comprehensive health complete histories, and performs complete physical exams during initial evaluation as well as subsequent follow up. Documenting in medical record - Obtaining workload credit for appropriate Lung Cancer Screening activities - Identifying and collaborating with the specialty interdisciplinary team including the Pulmonary Tumor Conference, Pulmonary Team Conference, and Thoracic Tumor Board, to design patient treatment plans - Communicating patient status information, attending outpatient clinics, attending Tumor Board and other educational and administrative meetings related to the Lung Cancer Screening and Nodule Program and Thoracic Oncology, and appropriately documenting progress in the Medical Record - Entering diagnostic imaging and laboratory orders, ordering appropriate tests and therapy; interpreting results and outcomes; discussing appropriate plan and interventions with members of the Lung Cancer Screening work group - Providing regular communication and reports to Chief of Pulmonary; identifying protocol problems, informing leaders of problems and assist in problem resolution efforts - Coordinating Lung Cancer Screening at affiliate VA Hospitals - Supporting the research mission through collaboration with investigators and protocol personnel Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Full time Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
