Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a physician leader to serve as our System Department Chair of Internal Medicine located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is a part-time role (0.45 FTE) with an opportunity to incorporate a clinical practice through employment with our medical group providing up to a full-time role. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced physician board certified in Internal Medicine or a subspecialty of IM, as well as physicians in the specialties of Neurology, Dermatology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Radiation Oncology to hold an administrative role while also maintaining a clinical practice, if desired. We are interested in physicians with at least two years of previous leadership experience.
The System Department Chair will be a forward-thinking, dynamic leader that can help shape the vision of our hospital and effectively collaborate with leadership and stakeholders. Candidates should have excellent collaborative skills and be comfortable in a team based environment. This role will report to the Chief Medical Officer and will be instrumental in the leadership of the Internal Medicine Department.
The System Department Chair shall be responsible to the Trinity Health Ann Arbor and (THAA) Trinity Health Livingston (THLN) Hospitals Medical Executive Committees for the performance of specified duties within the Department and shall be a participating member of those Committees.
Functions of the System Department Chair of Internal Medicine will include (but are not limited to):
Authority, in conjunction with the Department Section Heads Committee, to organize, direct, plan, and lead the Departmental activities, inpatient care, teaching and research, consistent with the objectives and policies of THAA/ THLN and the Department of Internal Medicine, in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws.
Duties listed below and will perform them in accordance with the applicable Medical Staff Bylaws approved credentialing policies and procedures, Department Rules and Regulations, and other Medical Staff, THAA/ THLN, or Trinity Health policies and procedures, as they exist from time to time. The Chair's duties include:
Administrative: The System Department Chair has overall responsibility for the operations of the Department, including the Department Office and staff.
Credentialing, Privileging, and Patient Care: The Chair also has overall responsibility for the clinically related activities of the Department. Accordingly, the Chair has the following duties relating to the credentialing, privileging, membership, and professional practice or peer review activities within the Department.
Duties and Authorities of the System Department Chair:
Establishes, in conjunction with Local Chair (if applicable), credentialing and privileging standards by creating a system delineation of privileges (DOP) document that sets minimum qualifications for granting and maintaining clinical privileges.
Accountable for peer review functions within the department including receiving reports on peer review and quality reports from the Local Chairs.
Oversees a program of orientation and continuing education for all individuals who have clinical privileges.
Establishes clinical care standards and required policies and procedures to ensure standards are upheld.
Assures that the quality and appropriateness of clinical care are monitored and evaluated and that appropriate actions based on findings are taken, including continuing surveillance of the professional performance of all individuals in the Department who have delineated clinical privileges; and maintenance of quality control programs, as appropriate; (may delegate portions of QA program to the Local Chair).
Must be an Active member of the medical staff at all local sites they oversee.
Makes recommendations to executive management on workforce planning and space and other related resource needs (including off -site sources for needed patient care, treatment and services not provided by the department or organization) that are related to alignment issues of mutual interests.
Provides oversight for operational issues that cannot be resolved at the local site.
Oversees the administrative related activities of the department and ensures the department is integrated into the primary functions of the health system.
Establishes the GME and academic research strategies for the system department.
Serves as a member of the System Physician Leadership Council.
Chair of the Department Executive Council that consists of the local site chairs.
Appoints medical directors for clinical services and off-site THAA/ THLN locations and ensures a mechanism to evaluate the effectiveness of these medical director roles.
Determines qualifications and competencies of Department or service personnel who are not licensed independent practitioners and who provide patient care services.
Formulates specific regulations and policies applicable to the Department, including monitoring and maintenance of Department Rules and Regulations.
Qualifications for this opportunity include:
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, a related subspecialty, or Neurology, Dermatology, Physical Medicine & Rehab, or Radiation Oncology
Must remain an Active Staff member in good standing of the THAA and THLN Medical Staffs during tenure of office.
Must maintain a practice that is reflective of the approved sections within the Department to the degree necessary to maintain clinical proficiency.
