The RN-Evidence Based Practice Coordinator (EBP) is a Registered Nurse with advanced education, knowledge, and clinical skills. Research background and experience is preferred to provide consultation, leadership, and guidance to staff conducting (EBP) projects. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Current BLS provider card required. BLS and ACLS instructor card preferred (issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN). Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist Certification. Five (5) years or more RN experience. MSN or doctoral degree preferred. Demonstrated experience in program and project development, management, and coordination. Demonstrated teaching and clinical leadership ability in the development of creative research, EBP, educational programs, performance improvement, and staff development. Experience with preceptor and mentoring techniques and familiarity with online learning applications and simulation technology. Experience working with compliance standards, procedures, and guidelines with respect to their creation, modifications, education, and use. Demonstrated proficiency in computer technology and common software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.), electronic library software, survey software, and other electronic data and documentation programs. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: This position requires heavy lifting, 45 pounds heavy carrying, 45 pounds straight pulling (2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing 8 hours - intermittently; repeated bending; both legs required; ability for rapid mental& muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aide permitted). Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Participate in Shared Governance (as an ad hoc member) and other nursing council meetings to identify potential gaps in care or problems that could be improved by implementing an EBP project. Assist staff and other interdisciplinary providers with EBP project proposal, development, implementation, successful completion, and dissemination. Ensure EBP best practices are applied and regulatory compliance is adhered to appropriately for all projects. Assess, plan, coordinate, collaborate, conduct, and evaluate EBP education programs to facilitate EBP mentorship and fellowship. Facilitate a variety of learning experiences for successful EBP project rollout using a range of instructional methods and modalities such as nursing grand rounds, orientation and continuing education programs, in-services, and journal clubs for staff with differing background, education, and experience levels. Responsible for educating staff with adaptation to specific veteran population at all sites and all tours of duty within the health care system. Utilize methods, measurements, and tools to evaluate achievement of learning goals and to collect, analyze, and disseminate data. Assist staff and ACNS/R&I with evaluation of EBP innovations and research projects, including literature reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, data management, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, and paper submissions to peer-reviewed publications as well as conferences, symposiums, seminars, and other such educational activities. Assist staff and ACNS/R&I with posters, podium presentations, and abstract submissions related to EBP innovations and research projects to conferences, symposiums, seminars, and other such educational activities. Evaluate and monitor progress of multiple EBP projects to ensure timely completion by guiding the project staff in planning, resource allocation, and implementation Work with and influence the project staff and their supervising management and stakeholders with resource allocation effort for successful outcomes of the EBP projects. Ability to convey information to staff at various levels of background, education, and experience. Serve as a role model and clinical leader to staff for clinical excellence, EBP, research, and best practices. Take initiative and utilize innovative and creative approaches for changing practice based on performance improvement findings and evidence-based practice. Demonstrate familiarity with established policies, procedures, and administration of the unit in accordance with the Joint Commission, other regulatory agencies, and VA policy. Ability to articulate and interpret organizational policies and procedures to the health care team and project staff. Participate in the change, development, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the standards. Evaluate and monitor potential impact of EBP projects on facility objectives such as improved standard of care, patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and staff satisfaction. Generate, document, and provide evidence for Pathway to Excellence designation. Identify resources and funding opportunities that are appropriate for projects and grant proposal development. Participate in initiatives related to EBP directives at nursing service, facility, regional network, and national levels. Collaborate with Centers of Excellence. Act as a resource and liaison by serving on facility-wide, network-wide, and national committees, councils, and task forces. Assume shared and direct responsibility for coordination of key core programs under Research & Innovation service. May be responsible and assigned to facility programs. May provide direct clinical care to select complex patients and their families as needed."]
