The Pulmonary section provides medical (non-surgical) care to inpatients, outpatients and long-term care. Some non-invasive and invasive respiratory procedures (as detailed below) are performed. Patients requiring surgery (e.g. thoracotomy and lung resection) are referred to other VAMC's. Patients requiring ventilator management are referred to community hospitals or other VAMC's. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Board Eligible Preferred Experience: BC/ Certification/competency in Sleep Medicine is Preferred. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Position is subject to a pre-employment physical and medical examination. This position requires: lifting, carrying; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; walking (8 hours); standing (8 hours); repeated bending; working alone; protracted or irregular hours of work and occasional emotional strain. ["Examination of patients to establish medical diagnoses by patient history, examination, and other criteria. Interpretation pulmonary function tests and blood gases. Performance of outpatient pulmonary consultations.
