This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. ["Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic; as well as provide feedback and inpatient consultation with the other services within the Beckley VA Medical Center. Evaluate, triage, and prioritize requests from Primary Care providers and others for outpatient Hematology/Oncology subspecialty consultations. Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients. Coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other medical personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. Perform administrative tasks as assigned, such as peer reviews and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE). Provide Hematology/Oncology on-call services as assigned. Physician will be required to attend staff meetings, serve on Cancer Committee and Tumor Board as well as VISN Oncology ICC meetings, be comfortable interacting with multidisciplinary teams, workgroups, and peer reviews as requested. Complete CME, VA Training, HIPAA, Security training, and other mandatory trainings. In additional to the duties listed above the Physician will provide clinical care within the Hematology/Oncology privileges. Ability to perform initial histories and physical examinations on outpatients; make assessments and use appropriate diagnostic evaluations; implement timely and appropriate treatment. Incorporate and perform \"Time Outs\" as per VA Directive prior to any invasive procedure. Ensure consents for chemotherapy agents are up to date. Rounding, supervision, and teaching with students, residents on the inpatient ward as well as outpatient clinic. Provide consultations, make daily rounds and manage oncology issues of patients admitted to hospitalist service. Participates in tele-medicine services between the main medical center and the various Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Assist with the diagnosis and interpretation of pulmonary nodules. Counsel and advise patients diagnosed with malignancy. Orders diagnostic studies and interprets laboratory tests, EKGs, and radiologic tests. Provides ongoing outpatient care for assigned case load. Prescribes and refills medications within the defined scope of practice. Provides education and counseling of patients and families as well as overseeing Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.
