This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Experience providing behavioral health services in adult populations. Experience providing behavioral health services through telehealth modalities. Experience implementing evidence-based behavioral health assessment and intervention practices. Experience working as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary care team Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist Prescriptive authority in state of licensure At least two years of experience as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. Nurse Practitioners: A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. Physical Requirements: Eligible applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform the following: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; heavy carrying, 45 pounds and over; straight pulling one (1) hour; pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking seven (7) hours; standing seven (7) hours. ["VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Major Duties (Including but not limited to): The PCMHI APRN provides triage, brief assessment and intervention, education, and consultative services regarding a wide range of behavioral health and behavioral medicine concerns on warm handoff and referral from primary care providers and allied PACT members. The PCMHI APRN uses population-based practice management strategies, and maintains competencies in the following core domains: 1. Clinical/Practice Management Skills Applies principles of population based care (e.g., early identification and intervention, evidence-based treatment, measurement-based care, interdisciplinary collaboration and coordination) and stepped care (i.e., delivery of most effective, least resource intensive treatment appropriate for patients' individual needs, preferences, and resources). Accepts warm handoffs and referrals from PACT members, and triages, assesses, and refers to specialty behavioral health care services appropriately and efficiently. Conducts functional assessments and provides time-limited, problem-focused interventions targeting functional outcomes for a broad range of behavioral health and behavioral medicine concerns. These include initiation and short-term maintenance of medication management, as well as evidence-based behavioral interventions, self-management strategies, and psychoeducational groups as consistent with education and training. Uses brief assessment measures routinely to assist in intervention planning and outcomes monitoring Maintains availability for telehealth and face-to-face visits. Maintains daily open access slots. Maintains availability for scheduled appointments within two weeks. Completes 80% of visits in 30 minutes or less. 2. Documentation Skills Writes assessment and intervention notes that are brief, clear, and concise, and that document clinical impressions, recommendations, and plan of care. Writes notes documenting curbside consultation results Completes notes within 24 hours. 3. Consultation Skills Consults with primary care providers and other PACT members routinely about plan of care for patients. This includes supporting primary care providers in their pharmacological management of behavioral health and behavioral medicine concerns, either directly or by supervision of PCMHI care management. Routinely provides verbal and/or written feedback to the primary care provider and other PACT members on same day as warm handoff or referral. Attends regularly scheduled PACT meetings and huddles, and provides curbside consultations and chart-based consultations on an as-needed basis. Provides general education and consultation to PACT members on behavioral health issues and strategies for successful care management. Serves as a liaison between PACT team members and mental health providers working with PACT patients who are receiving services in general and specialty mental health clinics. Provides ongoing training, supervision, and backup for PCMHI care management, including regularly scheduled meetings to discuss patients receiving care management services. Also maintains ready availability for consultation in urgent situations that may develop during care management visits. 4. Teaching and Training Teaches and mentors staff and students in their area of practice and provides supervision for licensure or specialty certifications. Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds. Provides Veterans and their families with accurate information according to established policies and procedures.
