The Assistant Nurse Manager, Medical-Surgical ICU, serves as an assistant with line authority to the unit nurse manager in providing leadership and direction to nursing staff. Provides leadership in improving and sustaining the quality and effectiveness of services to patients, applying professional practice and the Joint Commission Standards in the management of unit MSICU. Responsible for ensuring continuity of care during emergency or disaster events. Responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting on performance improvement measures. Participates in local, network or national committees and task forces. Assume direct patient care as needed to maintain quality patient care and unit work flow. Collaborates with services internal and external to the VA to facilitate care transition to effectively meet the patients' needs. Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge in assessing planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating care for a designated group of patients across the continuum of care: Recognizing the age related cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and geriatric patient. Obtains patient histories, obtains and evaluating lab results, administering medications, obtaining vital signs, and documentation of nursing care in VISTA/CPRS. Continually analyzes and evaluates clinic functions and activities in order to improve care / services to patients utilizing the principles of Advanced Clinic Access (ACA). Responsible for staff and patient schedules. Adapts the concept of Palliative Care. Ability to integrate an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering.
