This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Board certified or eligible in Pulmonology. Proficiency in spoken and written English. The VA Central Western Massachusetts Health Care System, Worcester Clinic is actively recruiting to fill a Board-Certified Staff Pulmonary Physician (BE considered) for the Medicine Care Line, Pulmonology Section. Sleep Medicine expertise is welcomed but Sleep Medicine fellowship training is not essential. The candidate will provide quality service in our progressive, innovative health care system for the Veteran outpatient population. This position is 100% outpatient care with no night or weekend duties. Clinical care will be in general Pulmonology with opportunities in Sleep Medicine and collaboration with the multi-disciplinary Long-COVID clinic. The candidate must have a strong commitment to patient care and skills in working with multi-disciplinary staff. Individuals with research interests will find a supportive research infrastructure. You will work collaboratively with other specialists as necessary in providing the best care to Veterans. The physician will consult and treat Veterans in an outpatient setting and managing out-patient Veterans in collaboration with Respiratory Technicians, Primary Care teams, and other Specialists. S/he will be responsible for the oversight of all aspects of the respiratory and sleep studies medical care delivered to patients. Patient care to be done via face-to-face visits, video visits (VVC), telephone visits, and electronic consults. S/he will be proficient in using electronic medical records to collect patient data, communicate electronically with patients (secure messaging, VVC) and staff (Teams or other current platform); will diagnosis, treatment and education of patients for pulmonary and sleep disorders; Outpatient Pulmonary clinic, interpretation of pulmonary function tests, interpretation of sleep study tests, routine out-patient pulmonary procedures; Perform procedures including bronchoscopy, thoracenteses and others as required; Manage patients requiring CPAP/BIPAP/APAP including initial orders or subsequent adjustment of settings as needed; Review oximetry results and prescribe supplemental oxygen when indicated; Manage and supervise Respiratory Therapy department; Perform chart reviews for Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation and peer reviews as necessary; Coordinate with CLC regarding patient care issues; Be responsible to document patient care data in electronic medical records such as history and physical exams within 24 hours of encounter, encounters for outpatients, consult notes, and enter new and renew prescriptions; Participate in facility committees as assigned. Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:00am - 4:30pm (The position is eligible for a compressed tour and some telework).
