Memorial Healthcare System is seeking a BE/BC hematologist with experience or interest in caring for adults with Sickle Cell Disease, for its Sickle Cell Medical Home program. Incumbent will provide services for patients including acute and chronic disease management for adults with sickle cell disease. Candidate must have expertise in managing hematological complications of sickle cell disease (i.e., acute chest syndrome, stroke), expertise in chronic pain management, and expertise in prescribing disease-modifying therapies. Candidate will participate in the on-call clinical management for sickle cell patients.
One of only a few Sickle Cell Day Hospitals in the country, Memorial Healthcare System offers a comprehensive approach to the management of acute and chronic complications from sickle cell disease. The Sickle Cell Medical Home provides hematology and primary care services, a dedicated sickle cell disease social worker, health wellness coach, and nurse managers to assist sickle cell warriors manage their disease. The Sickle Cell Medical Home also addresses acute pain management through the Sickle Cell Day Hospital. Plans to expand the Sickle Cell Day Hospital are underway. This Sickle Cell Day Hospital has been instrumental to helping patients avoid ED visits and hospital admissions. The Memorial Sickle Cell Day Hospital at Memorial Regional Hospital is the first program of its kind in the nation to receive “Disease-Specific Certification” from The Joint Commission.
This is a full-time employed position with the multispecialty Memorial Physician Group. The position offers competitive benefits and a compensation package that is commensurate with training and experience. Professional malpractice and medical liability are covered under sovereign immunity.
