The VAMC in Memphis, Tennessee is recruiting for a Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) Physician to serve as a full-time mental health service physician. The position is accountable to the Chief of Mental Health, for assuring the most effective delivery of state-of-the-art care by meeting or exceeding compliance standards. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Duties include but are not limited to: Screening of candidates for MAT clinic participation, including chart reviews, telephone, video and in clinic interviews. This includes medical history, physical assessment, and other necessary evaluations to determine the clinical appropriateness of Veterans for various treatment modalities offered by the MAT. Contraindications to offered treatments as well as ensuring that appropriate medication reconciliation and education of risks, benefits and alternatives to treatment have been performed and documented. Appropriate counseling and education will need to be provided whether the Veteran is deemed appropriate for admission into any modality of treatment offered by the MAT clinic. Oversight of induction onto the agent selected for treatment, including ensuring that proper monitoring and ordering of medications and labs are completed in a timely manner, along with associated documentation and scheduling of follow up. Participates actively in treatment team discussions. Maintain a current DEA x-waiver and other required credentials. Assists with screening and completion of consults. Assists with hospital wide pain management clinic functions as needed. Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team, established by the affiliated Team Leader, Program Director, and/or Service Line Leader. Assists the Team Leader and/or Program Director in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program. Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services. Complies with national and local performance measures and facilitates organizational success on these measures at the team level. Complies with all Facility and Service Line policies and expectations concerning administrative practices, including but not limited to leave authorization, responding to Suspense items, and completing all VA educational requirements. Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Program Manager/Deputy Chief, Service Line Leader, Chief of Staff, and/or Facility Director, or others as appropriate. Attends scheduled Mental Health Service and program Staff Meetings; and participates in the Psychiatry Service biannual competency review process (OPPE and FPPE), periodically serving on the Psychiatry Service Clinical Pertinence Review Committee.
