The Palliative Care Practice Manager RN provides oversight of the acute palliative care practice using operational and clinical expertise. The position enhances inpatient workflows and efficiencies to maximize provider billable hours. The position oversees day-to-day operations and acts as a liaison between providers, clinicians, and administrative staff. The position will also play a significant role in building the operational infrastructure of ambulatory and community based palliative care services. In addition, the position plays an active role in patient navigation and regularly consults with clinical staff on patient issues. The position will also assist in the budget and goal setting processes.
The palliative care department delivers specialty medical care for people living with a serious illness. Palliative care helps at any stage or any stage of a serious illness and is provided alongside other medical treatments. Palliative care promotes quality of life for both the patient and the family by prioritizing the patient’s goals and values.
Palliative care requires an interdisciplinary team including nurses, social workers, APPs, and physicians. The team is growing throughout the MaineHealth system, and this role will be supervising care team members in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Bachelor's Degree in nursing and currently licensed in Maine. Master's degree preferred.
Five years of palliative care experience, preferably in an acute setting.
Five years of experience leading a clinical program or multidisciplinary work group in a health care related setting preferred.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to identify and build relationships with local resources.
