The role of the Director of Psychosocial Services is to manage and supervise the psychosocial services of Hudson Valley Hospice, including consultation to and supervision of the Hospice’s Social Work Services, Bereavement Services, and all staff and interns working in the programs. As member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Groups and Management Team, additional responsibilities include collaboration with other managers toward the success of the agency. This position is vital within the department to advocate for staff, understand staffing needs and how to resolve issues/concerns. This Social Worker (LCSW) will have great management skills, understand hospice/palliative care and be able to think critically when problem solving.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Facilitates patient/family understanding of an adjustment to the demands and challenges of terminal illness, dying, death, and grief via an ongoing assessment and intervention including individual and group counseling, grief work, family meetings, crisis intervention and spiritual care.
Participates in interviews and hiring of competent staff and interns
Develops position control and staffing plans to assure adequate, competent staff that are scheduled to meet patient care needs for social work and bereavement.
Completes employee performance reviews.
Participates in completion of staff training and development programs, including unit-based orientation and a competency program.
Participates in the Performance Improvement process and works in teams as appropriate.
Participates in the weekly IDG care planning meetings for the purpose of fostering, evaluating, and monitoring staff in their reporting of care plan needs and interventions.
Facilitates monthly peer supervision and business meetings for all disciplines.
Provides weekly supervision for staff seeking LCSW accreditation.
Provides at least annual field evaluations with staff.
Assists in developing, monitoring, and compliance of department budgets multiple cost centers to meet financial goals. Submits budget variance forms.
Directs purchases of supplies, identifies effective resource management opportunities and pursues more efficient staffing/scheduling while assuring appropriate quality care.
Assists in researching of and applying for appropriate grants.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in social work by an accredited university.
Required Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the New York State Office of the Professions.
Minimum of three years experience working with terminally ill patients and/or grief counseling; hospice and palliative care experience required
Minimum of 2-5 years management experience in a healthcare setting.
Knowledge of family group treatment: dynamics of terminal illness and grief and bereavement with knowledge of community resources
Working knowledge of word processing and computer skills.
Hours: Monday-Friday (8:30am-4:30pm); Supervisor On Call rotation
Pay: $90,000-95,000 per year
